Choosing Automation and Controls components

Selecting the right automation component starts with a clear definition of the function the part performs in the control loop, the signals it must accept or produce, and the environment it operates in. A drop-in replacement is rarely "any unit with the right voltage" — interface, firmware version, and mechanical footprint all matter.

Specifications to confirm before ordering:

  • Exact OEM part number, including suffix/revision letters (firmware and option codes are encoded here)
  • Supply voltage and current draw — 24 VDC, 120 VAC, and 230 VAC variants are often non-interchangeable
  • Signal type: digital sourcing/sinking, analog 0–10 V or 4–20 mA, fieldbus protocol
  • Mounting style: DIN-rail, panel, threaded barrel, flange
  • Environmental rating (IP65/IP67/IP69K), operating temperature, and any hazardous-area certification needed
  • Connector or terminal style (M8, M12, screw, spring-clamp)

For PLC-based systems, also verify the processor family and rack/backplane compatibility — a CPU module from the same line but a different generation will often refuse to communicate with older I/O cards. On drive replacements, motor nameplate data (HP/kW, FLA, base speed) must match what the drive is parameterized for; otherwise the new drive will need to be retuned.

Typical applications include packaging-line retrofits where an obsolete drive needs to keep running until the next capital cycle, water-treatment SCADA systems that depend on a long-discontinued PLC family, and machine builders supporting installed bases that pre-date current product lines. For these cases, surplus or factory-refurbished units with a tested warranty are usually the lower-risk path versus full system replacement.

When a specific obsolete or end-of-life component is needed, request a quote with the OEM number; we can frequently locate units that are no longer in active distribution.

Do you stock obsolete or discontinued automation parts?
Yes. Legacy and end-of-life components are a primary focus. Provide the OEM part number and we'll search supplier-network inventory, surplus channels, and refurbished stock.
Are these parts new, surplus, or used?
Inventory varies by item and includes new-old-stock, factory-sealed surplus, and tested refurbished units. The condition is stated before purchase, and every unit carries the same 12-month functional warranty.
What is the typical lead time?
In-stock items ship same or next business day from St. Louis. Sourced items typically quote in 1–2 business days; lead time depends on the supplier and is confirmed before any commitment.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. International orders over $350 ship free; smaller orders are quoted with carrier options. Duties and import taxes are the buyer's responsibility.
Can you cross-reference an OEM part number to an equivalent?
Often, yes — for sensors, relays, power supplies, and similar commodity-style parts. For PLCs and drives, true cross-references are rare; we will state when only an exact OEM match is appropriate.
What if the part fails within the warranty period?
Contact us with the order number and a short description of the failure mode. Functional failures within 12 months are handled by replacement or refund. Damage from miswiring or over-voltage is not covered.
