Choosing Industrial Computers components

Industrial computer replacement is part-number-driven because the same model name can hide different CPU, memory, storage, and I/O configurations. The chassis is rarely the binding constraint — the operating system, installed software, and physical I/O are what determine whether a replacement actually drops in.

Specs to confirm before ordering:

  • Form factor: box PC, panel PC, embedded, rackmount, DIN-rail
  • CPU family and generation (Atom, Celeron, Core i3/i5/i7) — application software may have minimum CPU requirements
  • RAM and storage type (HDD, SSD, mSATA, M.2) — and whether the storage is removable
  • Operating system installed — Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC, Windows 11 IoT, Linux variants, or no OS
  • I/O ports: COM (RS-232/422/485), Ethernet, USB, DisplayPort/VGA/HDMI, GPIO, fieldbus cards
  • Expansion slots: PCI, PCIe, mini-PCIe, M.2
  • Power input: 24 VDC, wide-range DC (9–36 V), or AC
  • Operating temperature range (often 0–50 °C or -20–60 °C extended)
  • Mounting: VESA, panel cut-out (for panel PCs), DIN-rail

Common gotchas: an industrial PC with Windows 7 Embedded is not directly replaceable with the "same model" running Windows 10 IoT — the OS image, drivers, and possibly the application all need to be migrated. PCs with fieldbus cards (Profibus, EtherCAT master, CAN) often have the card model-coded into the part number; missing or wrong card means the system will not communicate. Fanless models trade quiet operation for limited CPU power; replacing a fanless unit with a fan-cooled one of the same CPU may not fit the original mounting.

Typical applications: machine HMIs running SCADA, line-side data collection and MES gateways, vision processing PCs, motion control hosts, and rackmount controllers in plant control rooms. For legacy installations, exact OEM replacement is usually less disruptive than migrating to a newer generation, especially where qualified software stacks depend on a known hardware configuration.

For obsolete industrial computers, send the OEM part number for a sourcing quote.

Do you stock obsolete industrial PCs?
Yes. End-of-life Advantech UNO, Siemens SIMATIC IPC 427/477/677, Allen-Bradley VersaView, and similar discontinued industrial computers are sourced through our supplier network.
Does the unit come with my application software installed?
No. Units ship in factory-default state or with the OEM-installed OS image only. The customer or integrator installs application software and any custom configuration.
What operating system is included?
It depends on the OEM build. Common options include Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC, Windows 11 IoT, Linux variants, or no OS. We state the OS, edition, and license type on each unit before purchase.
Will my existing storage drive work in a replacement chassis?
If the storage interface (SATA, mSATA, M.2) and form factor match, the drive itself usually transfers — but the OS image is tied to the original hardware. Windows activation and driver mismatches often require an OS reinstall after the swap.
How are large industrial PCs shipped?
Box PCs ship parcel from St. Louis. Rackmount and panel-PC units may ship LTL depending on size. Standard free shipping applies; oversized freight is quoted at the time of order.
What is the warranty?
12 months functional warranty on the hardware. Issues caused by user-installed software, malware, or storage drive failure from age are not covered.
